Bourganeuf is a market town in the Creuse department in the Limousin region in central France. It is steeped in History and the Tour Zizim which you can see in this picture once housed Prince Cem Sultan, pretender to the throne of the Ottoman Empire, who was kept prisoner here in the fifteenth century. It is possible to book a visit to this tower on Wednesday mornings.
It has a market every Wednesday morning with fresh vegetables, organic bread in a variety of loaves and many stalls selling gifts, jewelry and household items. There are restaurants and a supermarket, although the latter is at the bottom of a long hill and best reached by car. Sketching en plein air is easy with many vantage points giving satisfying views of buildings or sections of stonework.
